The Mértola Food Network includes a set of interconnected activities in which the production, processing, distribution, and consumption of food products are based on the sustainable use of the environmental, economic, social, and nutritional resources of the region.
It aims to develop, implement, and disseminate an innovative approach to the food system as an alternative to the food supply chains based on the currently dominant agro-business model.
It focuses on the combination of capacity-building and collaboration at the level of food production, processing, and distribution at the local scale, as well as on consumer education and participatory governance to increase local consumption.
