The Mértola Food Network includes a set of interconnected activities in which production, processing, distribution and consumption of food products are based on the sustainable use of the territory's environmental, economic, social and nutritional resources.
It aims to develop, implement, and disseminate an innovative approach to the food system as an alternative to the food supply chains based on the currently dominant agribusiness model.
It relies on a combination of capacity building and collaboration in local food production, processing, and distribution, as well as consumer empowerment and participatory governance to increase local consumption.
