Root2Fork

Food systems inspired by forests

Root2Fork is a European research and innovation project that aims to accelerate the agroecological transition through the development of multi-strata agroforestry systems inspired by the structure and functioning of forest ecosystems. By combining trees, shrubs and food crops, the project promotes diversified production systems capable of regenerating soils, conserving biodiversity and strengthening the resilience of food systems.

The project operates through four Living Labs in Portugal, Germany, Finland and Norway, bringing together farmers, researchers and communities to explore and test solutions that connect regenerative food production with consumption and local food networks.

Terra Sintrópica’s role in Root2Fork

The Terra Sintrópica Association is part of the international Root2Fork consortium, contributing the experience developed at CARES — Centre for Agroecology and Regeneration in Semi-Arid Regions, in Mértola. Its participation strengthens the connection between scientific research and agricultural practice, promoting solutions adapted to semi-arid regions, where ecological regeneration, food production and community development complement one another.
