Germinar

Seeds of Intergenerational Communities

Senior citizens from the Mértola Senior University (USM) and young students from the vocational school ALSUD are working side-by-side to co-create four syntropic gardens in the municipality, through a participatory process that strengthens bonds, active listening, and cooperation in a territory marked by profound social and climatic challenges.

Starting from the living foundation of traditional polycultures in the gardens and backyards of elders, the group broadens their horizons through contact with implementing syntropic agroforestry systems, recognizing their regenerative and resilience potential in the face of climate change.

Germinar integrates moments of practical learning, artistic creation, and collective reflection. More than just gardens, it co-creates places of the future—living spaces where we can continue cultivating relationships, knowledge, and hope for a more resilient and just territory.
